Briarwood is one of those classic Kiwi ‘can do’ stories… young ambitious Kiwi girl returns home from London, a love of design and a lifelong dream of creating her own fashion label fired up by years spent exploring the streets of Europe’s most stylish cities. With just a few pounds in her pocket and plenty of passion and determination that dream was born.

Ange set up the first Briarwood store in 1992, in a very small space beside the then famous Route 66 on Broadway, in Auckland’s Newmarket shopping district. A tiny launch collection of beautiful leather bags and shoes was created, with some of the finishing touches done on a sewing machine in a back room the size of a cupboard.

By the end of the first week’s trading most of the stock had been sold and New Zealand women’s love affair with Briarwood had begun. Two decades on, Briarwood has become an iconic Kiwi brand synonymous with outstanding quality and exquisite design flair, and Ange is still incredibly passionate about the business!

However the essence of the brand remains the same… Briarwood is all about timeless contemporary design combined with expertly skilled craftmanship. Effortless style with a twist. Cherish with love!
